What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST), also known as Cranial Osteopathy, is an evidence-based method which helps to restore the right physiological circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cerebrospinal system.
CST therapy aims to find the relationship between a disturbance of the craniosacral rhythm and dysfunction in the body. The craniosacral rhythm includes a rhythmical movement of the CSF, contractions and movements of the nervous system structures, as well as the mobility of the skull and sacrum.
During CST, the therapist starts a “dialogue” with the Patient’s body through a gentle touch by sensing their craniosacral rhythm. This technique allows to allocate tensions in the body and then remove them by creating a harmonious flow.
This method stimulates the natural self-regulating forces of the whole organism. Hence, it improves all functions in the body and restores the psychophysical balance. It means that CST therapist not only can remove pain but can also support Patient’s well-being by releasing their negative emotions and past traumas.

What are the benefits of CST?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) has a number of positive effects on both the body and mind. The main benefits are the following:
– Releasing tension, stress and beliefs which cause illness, pain, and physical or mental discomfort
– Deep relaxation
– Connection with the inner self and the present moment
– Understanding the body’s natural ability to heal itself
CST also supports the nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine and respiratory systems. This means that if any dysfunction in any of these systems has a negative impact on the craniosacral system, then such dysfunction can be effectively removed and normalised through CST.
CST not only can help remove psychosomatic disorders but can also improve the functioning of the entire motor system. Therapy brings harmony to the body and integrates all its functioning. What is more, CST has a positive effect on strengthening the immune system.
One therapeutic session can be enough to notice some positive changes. It can also help Patient to let go of their tensions in the central and peripheral nervous system. After the treatment, Patients experience deep relaxation and improved concentration.
CST also helps to understand oneself on a deeper emotional and spiritual level. It can make Patients emotional in a positive way. Patients often feel joy after their treatment.
Who can undergo CST?
Craniosacral Therapy is intended for people of all ages – both for children, adults and the elderly, who experience tensions in the body, often related to trauma, disease, accident or depression.
However, CST helps with various types of organism dysfunctions resulting not only from trauma but also from physiological disorders caused by chronic stress.
CST removes the negative tensions and emotions which have been accumulated in the body even for years. CST is great for relieving pain which is a result of stress. It can also be used as rehabilitation. CST effectively eliminates diseases such as:
– Headaches and migraines
– Spine injuries, pain in the back, neck and shoulders
– Abdominal pain, digestive problems and menstrual pain
– Ear and throat inflammation/ infection
– TMJ disorders
– Incurable injuries
– Stress, fatigue and anxiety
Moreover, CST is a very beneficial method for infants and children suffering from postpartum trauma, digestive, sleeping, feeding, behavioural, learning or ENT problems, allergies, asthma, injuries or recurrent diseases. CST is also recommended for autistic children.
How long does CST take?
The duration of CST depends on different factors, e.g.:
– Patient’s readiness to make changes
– Building trust and a sense of security between the Therapist and the Patient
– Patient’s overall health and the level of exhaustion of their vital forces
– The number of accumulated dysfunctions in the body
Some Patients feel a significant change after just a few sessions, others need a longer therapy. There are individual differences as everyone heals at their own pace.
